Up on the Hill, part 1 (8.5x11", full color, 26 pages)
The story of the summer between fifth and sixth grades.
It’s the summer of 1972 in the small college town of Cascadia, Oregon. Tommy, Janis, and Earl are finding their way through the beginnings of puberty in a world where Apollo astronauts walk on the moon, Richard Nixon is President of the United States, and the nightly news delivers graphic footage of the war in Vietnam. The Viet Nam draft hangs over the neighborhood like a dark cloud. And some of the middle-age parents are both worrying about their children baing drafted and contending with their own PTSD, still lingering from the second world war.
In part one, Tommy and Earl have an argument and they see giant condors. Earl sees things that aren’t really there. Tommy fails to read the room and DOES NOT get to kiss Janis.
